How to Remove Adhesives Without Polluting - the VOC and Amine-Free Alternative to Traditional Adhesive Removal

Some products are made to stick.

Epoxies and paints, for instance, will take hold and never let go; which is exactly what one hopes until they need to be removed.  The problem with removing strong adhesives and coatings boils down to the hazards and volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions of the cleaning solvent.  It seems, inevitably, that the better an adhesive or coating is at sticking to a surface, the more occupational and environmental hazards come with the cleaner.  Take methyl ethyl ketone (MEK) and trichloroethylene (TCE), for instance. While both have become industry standards in adhesive removal, their solvating power comes at a high risk to human health.  MEK is highly flammable and causes nervous system and respiratory impairment and TCE hosts a slew of adverse effects on human health, including carcinogenicity from all routes of exposure!

Why are VOC’s and amines dangerous?

On top of the acute threats to human health, products like MEK and TCE are VOC’s.  VOC’s react with oxides of nitrogen in the presence of sunlight to create ground-level ozone, which is the main component of smog.  Precursors to ground-level ozone such as MEK and TCE have far-ranging and long-lasting effects on human health and the environment. Other commonly-used stripping/de-bonding formulations rely heavily on the cleaning power of amines coupled with polar aprotic solvents.  Amines can be toxic, corrosive, cause severe lung damage or respiratory irritation and, as such, have low permissible exposure limits. NuGenTec is committed to redefining legacy chemistry and creating healthier alternatives to unsustainable practices such as these. So when NuGenTec decided to create a stripper/de-bonder, they decided to take a different approach.

What is the safer alternative?

While other companies have taken the amine or high-VOC content of strippers and de-bonders to be unavoidable side effects of solvents, NuGenTec took to the lab to develop a stripper/de-bonder with zero VOC’s and zero amines. NuGenTec's NuStrip RH has the ability to remove resins, paints, synthetic finishes, vinyl, baked acrylics, epoxies, polyurethanes, alkyds, polyesters, melamines, particles, greases, and oil.  For industries that perform large-scale, efficient adhesive removal on ferrous and non-ferrous alloys, NuGenTec’s NuStrip RH is a safer alternative that allows continuous use without contributing to ground-level ozone, putting workers at unnecessary health risks, or corroding metals, including cuprous alloys.  An increasing number of states have imposed regulations on amounts of VOC’s permissible for industry use. Often, when seeking to create greener, healthier products, companies will sacrifice price or efficiency. When NuGenTec seeks to create a safer alternative, quality and price are paramount to the formulation.  NuGenTec’s NuStrip RH delivers superior adhesive and coating removal with zero VOC’s, zero amines, and no extra cost to the user. But how does NuStrip RH actually work?

How does NuStrip RH work without any VOC’s or amines?

Most strippers/de-bonders rely on the solvating ability of a single solvent that either has high VOC or amine content and acute risks to human health.  This blunt force approach to stripping with a single solvent is becoming obsolete as regulations on industry-use increase. NuGenTec’s NuStrip RH uses a synergistic blend of safer solvents to clean more powerfully than any single solvent.  This synergistic blend is combined with a surfactant technology that lifts both adhesives and soils from surfaces in a manner that no other adhesive and coating removers are using. NuStrip RH is the new, safer alternative to VOC and amine-based legacy practices.
