| Main Use |
This is primarily what the
product was intended for. Note Many products are capable of a variety
of applications. |
|
Form |
L = Liquid; P = Powder, S = 100%
Solvent based, Non-aqueous based product (contains no water).
It is generally (and this is not always the case) believed that powdered
materials are more cost effective. "I'm not shipping water," is a
typically response. While in some cases powders are more cost
effective (cheaper per unit of "use solution," Liquids definitely have their
advantages. |
|
pH |
pH of Concentrated Material.
pH levels above 12.5 and below 3 are typically considered corrosive and ship
as Hazardous Materials Under UN1760, Class 8, Packing Group III per DOT
(Department of Transportation). pH - see also |
|
pH 5% |
pH of product in De-ionized (DI)
or Reverse Osmosis Water. pH's measured in Tap water may vary slightly
from these values. |
|
Solvent % |
List the percent by weight of
solvent. See MSDS sheet for individual products for more information
on each solvent used. This is what contributes to the VOC (volatile
organic compounds) in a product. For the purposes of this chart we do not
consider water a solvent. Solvents
- see also |
|
Silicates |
Indicates whether or not a
product contains silicates. Silicates protect Aluminum from attack at
pH's above 9.5. However certain applications have restrictions on use
of silicates. Typically silicates are not allowed in pre-paint,
pre-coat cleaners due to adhesion issues with paints and coatings |
|
Caustic |
Indicates if a product has free
Caustic. For our purposes caustic is free sodium hydroxide NaOH
(Caustic Soda) or potassium hydroxide KOH (Caustic Potash). Caustic is
used to boost cleaning in alkaline cleaners, improve wetting and increase
pH. Usually an indication of a corrosive product. Caustic
Materials are safe on ferrous metals and cause varying degrees of attack on
non-ferrous metals. |
|
Chelates |
Indicates if a product has
Chelates (chelating agents). Chelates are used to soften hard water.
Hard water can cause some cleaning solutions to turn cloudy and separate.
The Most commonly used chelate is EDTA (ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid).
chelate - see also |
| Amines |
Indicates whether any amines:
ethanolamine / Monoethanolamine (MEA) or Triethanolamine (TEA) are present
in product. Note: NuGenTec does not use Diethanolamine (DEA) in any of
it's products. DEA is considered a hazardous material by many
organizations. Amines typically are not compatible with non-ferrous
metals, especially copper and brass (except for short contact times ->
perhaps for cleaning purposes). |
|
Acids |
Indicates if a product has any
free acid. Usually an indication of a corrosive product. Products with
pH's below 7 typically will corrode ferrous metals such as steel or cast
iron. |
|
Foaming |
Foaming tendencies of each
product are listed here. If products have temperature dependant
foaming tendencies that is also listed. VL = Very Low to NO Foam; L =
Low Foam; M = Moderate level of foam; H = High foaming. A dash after
each of the above indicates the temperature (degree F, Fahrenheit) level at
Min to achieve the foaming tendency listed. i.e. VL-120 would mean the
product has Very Low foam at temperatures above 120 Fahrenheit. |
|
Tank
/ Ultrasonic |
Describes if the product is
capable of use in either a static or agitated immersion tank or in an
Ultrasonic tank. Typically all NuGenTec Cleaners designed for tank
cleaning are designed for ultrasonic use as well.
Minimum to Maximum recommended temperature
ranges are listed here. |
|
Spray
<25psi |
Products listed here with a "yes" are
suitable for less than 25 psi spray wash systems. Low pressure spray
stystems. |
|
Spray
>25psi |
Products listed here with a "yes" are
suitable for less than 25 psi spray wash systems. High pressure spray
systems, hot parts washer tanks. |
|
Ferrous
Metals |
Suitable for cleaning ferrous metals: iron,
steel, stainless steels (SS). |
|
Aluminum |
Suitable for cleaning aluminum (Al) and aluminum alloys,
including tin and galvanized metals.
|
|
Copper |
Suitable for cleaning copper (Cu)and copper
alloys including brass. |
|
Magnesium |
Magnesium safe cleaner. |
|
Brightens |
This product is meant to brighten or restore
luster to surfaces. see specific product data sheet for each
brightner. |
|
Free Rinsing |
The ability of a cleaner or
other chemical to completely rinse from the "substrate" with water only with
out leaving any residues. The majority of NuGen cleaners are specifically
formulated to be free rinsing. In cases where a product is not free
rinsing we will disclose how to rinse/remove that particular product. |
| *OK |
When "OK" is used in the columns above instead of NO or YES
it indicates the product is not designed with this particular application in
mind however we have found the product performs satisfactorily. |
